Disneyland Haunted Mansion Updates

Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion has long been a cornerstone of the park, enchanting guests with its eerie charm and rich storytelling. In recent times, the attraction has undergone a series of thoughtful enhancements, blending nostalgia with modern updates to enrich the guest experience.

Expanded Grounds and Enhanced Queue

In January 2024, the Haunted Mansion closed for an extensive refurbishment aimed at expanding and enhancing its outdoor areas. This project introduced an expanded outdoor queue designed to immerse guests further into the mansion’s lore.

The new queue features enhanced theming, providing a more engaging experience as visitors await their journey into the haunted estate. Additionally, the stately grounds now include a new retail shop adjacent to the attraction’s exit, offering exclusive merchandise for fans.

Introduction of Magnolia Park

Complementing the Haunted Mansion’s enhancements, Disneyland unveiled Magnolia Park in November 2024. Situated in front of the train station between Tiana’s Palace restaurant and the Haunted Mansion, this elegant, park-like setting offers guests a serene spot to relax. Shaded by oak and ficus trees, Magnolia Park provides a picturesque environment to enjoy a Mickey-shaped beignet from the nearby Mint Julep Bar or to take in live entertainment.

Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond

On December 23, 2024, Disneyland surprised guests by opening “Madame Leota’s Somewhere Beyond,” a retail shop located at the exit of the Haunted Mansion. Originally slated for a 2025 debut, this store draws inspiration from the mansion’s iconic seance room. The interior features decor elements such as Leota’s original chandelier, a portrait of Leota Toombs (the face of Madame Leota), and a distinctive bat lamp. This addition offers fans an opportunity to bring a piece of the Haunted Mansion’s mystique home with them.

Reimagined Bride and Attic Scene

In January 2025, the Haunted Mansion introduced a reimagined version of the bride character in the attic scene. This update pays homage to the original character while incorporating a refreshed storyline, adding depth to the attraction’s narrative. The bride, previously depicted as an axe-wielding specter, now holds a candelabra, aligning with the mansion’s eerie yet enchanting atmosphere.

Consideration of Further Updates

Disneyland’s creative team is continually evaluating ways to enhance the Haunted Mansion experience. One potential update under consideration is the removal of the hanging corpse visual from the stretching room scene. While this change aims to address concerns about the depiction, it presents structural challenges and is still under review.

These recent updates reflect Disneyland’s commitment to preserving the Haunted Mansion’s classic allure while thoughtfully integrating new elements. As the attraction continues to evolve, it remains a beloved experience, inviting both new and returning guests to delve into its spectral mysteries.
