Frightening Disney Halloween Movies to Enjoy All Year Long

It doesn’t have to be October to enjoy a spine-chilling Disney movie. Halloween or not, there is no shortage of amazing Disney Halloween movies that you can enjoy all year long.

In fact, there are so many creepy Disney Halloween movies to enjoy that you can watch a different movie every day of the month!

So let’s jump right in and talk about some of the best creepy movies that Disney Studios has released.

Halloween Disney Movies

Hocus Pocus

Probably one of Disney’s most well-known creepy films, and definitely at the top of any Disney Halloween movie list, is Hocus Pocus.

Set in Salem, Massachusetts this witchy flick centers on the events that happen after teens unknowingly light a black flame candle that frees the Sanderson sisters from their slumber.

With a black cat, formerly a young boy named Thackery Binx, watching over the teens they work to keep the children of Salem safe from the witches spells. This classic is a must watch not only in the fall, but any time you need a little infusion of spooks to keep you going until October 31st arrives.

Hocus Pocus 2

Released in 2022, this sequel is one of my personal favorites. The modern take on witchcraft and hilarious story about Winifred’s relationship with William “Billy” Butcherson makes this a must-watch movie.

Seeing the young versions of the Sanderson sisters, Winifred, Sarah & Mary, adds. a layer of fun that was unexpected. And the women empowerment—love that! Do yourself a favor and add this popular Halloween movie to the top of your list when you need a spooky pick-me-up.

Halloweentown

The first in a series of four Disney Halloween films. Marnie Piper finds out that her mother’s family is not only from a supernatural town known as Halloweentown, but she is also a witch. With guidance from her spiritual Grandmother, played by Debbie Reynolds, Marnie must learn how to use her new found powers before midnight strikes on Halloween night or lose her gifts forever.

If you want to watch all of the Halloweentown movies, here’s the list of the films in order:

  • Halloweentown (1998)
  • Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge (2001)
  • Halloweentown High (2004)
  • Return to Halloweentown (2006)

The Nightmare Before Christmas

This cult classic by Tim Burton is one of Disney’s most popular Halloween movies. Jack Skellington, known fondly as the Pumpkin King, is the king of Halloween Town finds himself bored with the Halloween traditions and decides to take over Christmas Town and their festivities.

Putting a haunted spin on the holiday season, Jack and his sweetheart Sally must face off against Oogie Boogie and save Christmas from becoming a spooky disaster. Along with catchy songs, stunning animation, and lovable characters, this movie has become a Halloween staple for many horror movie lovers.

Twitches

This movie, based on the popular 2000s children’s fantasy novel series by H. B. Gilmour and Randi Reisfeld, follows identical twin sisters after they each discover they have magical powers. The girls who were separated at birth are reunited on their 21st birthday in a magical place that is slightly familiar to the sisters.

Back in Coventry, the mysterious realm they lived in before being Earth, the girls (played by Tia and Tamara Mowry) must defeat a malevolent force known as The Darkness.

Z-O-M-B-I-E-S

Fifty years after a zombie apocalypse, zombie students are finally allowed to attend Seabrook High School. This Disney original movie is filled with musical and dance numbers that are quite entertaining.

Not to mention who doesn’t love a social group crossover that includes a zombie and a cheerleader becoming fast friends? The two students show their classmates that they can accomplish more together when they embrace each other’s differences.

Frankenweenie

Another film by Tim Burton, the plot in this frighteningly fun movie follows young Victor Frankenstein through the devastation he feels by the loss of his beloved bull terrier Sparky.

The novice Scientist performs an experiment to bring his beloved pooch back from the dead. Seeing his success leads to Frankenstein’s peers trying their own experiments to bring their furry friends back from the dead.

Some of the hybrid animals that result from these experiments don’t go as expected and the kids in town have to deal with their experimental chaos.

Don’t Look Under the Bed

Frances doesn’t believe in the paranormal until pranks start happening around the neighborhood that she gets blamed for.

When this begins to affect her relationships with others, she discovers that the Boogeyman is to blame. The high schooler sets out to make things right with the help of Larry, her little brother’s imaginary friend in this fantasy horror movie.

Girl vs. Monster

Skylar, a young girl, learns that she is a fifth-generation monster hunter. On the eve of Halloween she accidentally releases a monster from a secret containment room and has to deal with the fallout from her mistake.

The monsters know that she is after them and work together to try and put an end to her monster-hunting career before it gets a chance to begin.

Coco

This movie may not technically be a Halloween movie, but with the Dia de los Muertos theme, it’s easily a other world fan favorite.

The movie, set in Mexico, follows the story of Miguel and his family. The twelve-year-old aspiring musician wants to prove his talents to his family despite their ban on music after the tragic death of a famous musician on stage.

When his grandmother destroys his guitar, he steals the guitar of the late musician so that he can play in a Day of the Dead talent show. Once he has the guitar he accidentally plays a magical chord which makes him invisible to living people and transports him to the Land of the Dead.
